Neighbourhood Description
St Johns Retreat is located in Waterloo, a friendly coastal neighbourhood just north of Liverpool. The area is known for its characterful red-brick Victorian terraces, independent businesses and relaxed community feel.
You'll find a mix of local cafés, restaurants, pubs and independent shops right on your doorstep, making it easy to experience the area like a local. One of our favourites spots is The Liver, just a five minute walk away on Crosby Road. And don't miss a visit to The Workshop, who serve up a fabulous Sunday roast!
Crosby Beach is also nearby and is home to Antony Gormley’s famous Another Place installation, where 100 cast-iron figures stretch along the shoreline and create one of the region’s most recognisable landmarks.
The coastline is one of the area's biggest attractions, with miles of beach, coastal paths and open green spaces to enjoy. One of the things we love most about Waterloo is that it offers the best of both worlds – a peaceful coastal setting while still being just a few miles from Liverpool city centre, making it easy to enjoy everything the city has to offer before returning to a quieter neighbourhood by the sea.
Whether you're visiting for a city break, work trip or seaside escape, Waterloo offers a welcoming atmosphere, beautiful coastal scenery and plenty of local character that makes a stay at St Johns Retreat extra special!
Getting Around
Getting around from Waterloo is simple, whether you’re travelling by train, car or on foot. Waterloo Merseyrail station is within walking distance of the house, providing regular direct services to Liverpool Central. The journey into Liverpool city centre takes around 17–20 minutes, with frequent trains throughout the day, making it an easy option for days and evenings in the city.
The location is also ideal for exploring the coast. Crosby Beach and Crosby Coastal Park are a 20 minute stroll or a short 5 minute drive.
For drivers, the property is well placed for accessing Liverpool city centre, the waterfront and the wider Sefton Coast, with the M57 and M58 motorway network accessible via Switch Island.
Local bus services operate throughout Waterloo, Crosby and the surrounding area, while Uber and local taxi services are also readily available. With Liverpool, the coast, local shops, cafés and restaurants all close by, a car isn't essential for many stays.
